Why does material matter?

Caravan ATM/GVM compliance is legal — if you're tight on weight, every kilo matters. Aluminium saves ~5 kg versus steel. $100 to save 5 kg = $20/kg. A factory GVM upgrade typically costs $200+/kg — so weight-saving here is 10× cheaper. If you've got plenty of ATM headroom, steel is the proven workhorse.
